Mochi is a Japanese word that refers to foods made form pounded glutinous rice. Outside Japan it's come to refer to glutinous rice balls filled with sweet fillings, commonly called daifuku mochi in Japan. Mochi are a festive food, eaten especially around New year and other holidays. Sweet filled mochi are priced for their unique springy texture, chewy bit and of course their yummy fillings!
